We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team within the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences and contribute to the development of an exciting research program focusing on social sciences applied to animal welfare perspectives. Specifically, we are looking for someone to develop research ideas to better understand different perspectives on animal welfare and to help influence change in human behavior to improve aspects of animal welfare. Where appropriate, the position would also contribute to certain aspects of our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs, including the supervision of student research projects.

main responsibilities

1. Undertake appropriate social science research on perceptions of positive animal welfare and best practices for implementing positive welfare among different sectors of society

2. Help develop a research agenda that uses social science to understand the human view of animal welfare and the challenges and opportunities for improving welfare in practice

3. Teaching duties in relation to our bachelor’s and master’s programs on social science aspects of animal welfare

4. Investigate funding opportunities in this area and assist in the preparation of grant applications
